Notes and sketches about my Major Project
Classical Music
When I think about Classical music the first things that come to my mind are pieces such as Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy or Nocturnes made by Chopin. That is to say that landscapes at night that evolve the moon represent classical music perfectly, in my point of view. Similarly to these types of music, landscapes with the moon bring peace and calm.
The sketch I made is based on an image that I saw of the night. I am going to use this as reference for my digital drawing, however I may add or take some elements from the composition. Furthermore, to paint the drawing I will use Kandinsky’s manifesto as reference while choosing the colours, even though I am not going to do an abstract drawing. For this, particularly, I am going to use specially cold colours, but the moon will have a warm yellow and so its reflection.
The composition will be very simple and elegant, as the song it is inspired by. If one analyzes the Nocturne of Chopin it is easy to understand which is the main melody, which is the main voice. The drawing will also be simple to understand the composition and the main elements.
This was my first attempt of foinf a nocturne: it did not work as I wanted/expected so I did another drawing. However this was a good exercise to practice my technique and it allowed me to be more familiar with the tools of the software.
Soul Music
While listening to Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Nina Simone, along with many others, the first image that comes to my mind is a scene of New York in the 1950’s. I used to make writing exercises in which I had to write a story based on a song. As I mentioned in previous posts, James Whistler was inspired by Chopin Nocturnes and the story they tell. My drawing is also going to be inspired by the story of the song I chose to represent it.
“I’ll come running back to you” by Sam Cooke, passes in the night. It had rained so there were not many people in the streets. The lights and its reflection decorates the city, and a man with a broken heart walks in the street talking with the stars, expecting for his person to accept him back. That is going to be the story behind my drawing, the story I create in my head
Pop Music
When trying to think of a landscape based on pop music the first artists that come to my mind were Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, along others. I associate it with a candy world, where everything is made out of candies and chocolate. The palette of colours for this drawing is going to be mainly pastel and the pink is going to dominate the landscape.
It is going to be as if from another world, there is going to be trees made out of lollypops, houses as the one in “Hansel and Gretel” a story by the Grimm brothers, the grass is going to be pink and the clouds will look like candy floss.
Rock Music
I often associate songs as “My demons” by Starset to hell and the devil since it is a song described as an edgy, hard rock. However I will not draw hell as in the Bible, but hell on earth, in other words I am going to draw a volcanic landscape in which the red will be the dominant colour. Looking at representations of hell, there are many similarities of what I expect to do therefore I chose a type of landscape that I could actually use as reference instead of having to imaginate it through texts that have been written centuries ago or even in just beliefs of what hell is and how it looks like. It will have a river of lava coming out a volcano, almost like the end of the world.Later I will update this post with all the sketches and notes I made while drawing it.
I am hoping that you have more on your project work which now urgent. Please start adding this
