Research: class exercise

 During our lecture we talked about three ways to do our research. This was the execercise that we started doing and that we had to finish during the week.

Name something you have researched in the past for art, design or media.

I researched about Yves Klein, a french artist, and, personally, one of my favourites.

Explain how you researched this.

I started by researching for painters that were inspired by music, it was in that website that I found James Abbott McNeill Whistler and his Nocturnes, which were inspired by the Noscturnes of the classical composer, Chopin. Then, I began researching for his life and analysis of the paintings.

What facts did you discover? 

• Yves Klein was born in 1928 in Nice;
• He was an artist associated with the Parisian Nouveau Réalisme movement;
• In 1960 he pantented International Klein Blue;
• He rejected the linear and reconceived form as “a value of impregnation,” the filling of space with “the pictorial immaterial sensibility.”
• He is one of the groundbreaking conceptual artists of the 20th century.
• He died at age 34

What NEW conclusions did you establish?

I did not establish any new conclusion about him or his paintings since I had already done a careful research about it. However, it was good for me to review the information since I am doing another project inspired by him.

In the next part of the post I am going to do I will explain briefly what I will need to research for my major project. In order for it to be clear I will also explain what my major project is about.

For my major project I will draw a series of landscapes inspired in the different genres of music. I intend to do at least four digital drawings and for this I will probably use Sketchbook .

Research into my major project

For my major project I am going to research into painters that were inpired by music. These will be 

Paul Klee and Henry Matisse. Furthermore, I am also going to research into animes/mangas as well as digital drawings in order to better understand the Digital Art World. For this I chose the anime "Your name" (Kimi no Na wa) by Makoto Shinkai.

This is the trailer of the anime but if we look carefully there are beautiful landscapes through the anime, for example:

I think that these landscapes were beautifully made. The use of light and colour was amazingly done. I could use it, especially the second one, as an inspiration for the drawing that I will make to represent "Classical Music", since it brings a sense of calm and peace and so the classical music that I chose does.


Research through my major project
For my major project, I will probably use mainy the app Scketchbook, an app that I have been testing in the last few days.These are some drawing that I did as experiences.

In general, I thought that it was very simple to use but I would like to try one more app so that I can compare the two of them and then choose the best one for me. Therefore I am also going to test Adobe Fresco. After trying it I will upload some examples of what I did.


Research for my major project
For this part, I will do further research in the concept of my major project: Music and its genres. I will also research how music influences our brain and emotional responde in order to transmit the same emotions through painting
