What do I know about Fine Art?
What should I be doing in my subject area?
I should be practicing and practicing and practicing. I believe that practice leads to perfection and it is also practice that will determinate how successful I will be in the future. Moreover, I should also be deepen my knowledge about it, especially about Art History, which might influence a lot my art and the route I want to follow.
What skills and knowledge do I need for my subject area?
In terms of knowledge, it is of paramount importance for a fine artists to know Art History and Geometry. Even though these are very distinctive subjects every artist must know at least the basics of Art History. This subject will help artists developing their work and ideas. On the other hand, Geoemtry is more about perspective. Even if an artist want his artworks to be more abstract, he must know also the basics of geometry. I believe that every artist must have a solid foundation, with a lot of practice and knowledge, in other words, an artist must be diverse and know how to do the basics of everything related to his subject area, for instance, I might want my art to be more abstract (which I don't but it is just an example) but I also need to learn how to draw realistically.
Furthermore, a fine artist also need a lot of practice, which will help him to develop his technique. It is essential to develop obsevational skills and speed up our technique so that it doesn't take too long to do simple things.
What jobs can I get by studying in this subject?
Fine Art is a diverse course, in which during the course we develop many different skills. Therefore, people who graduate in fine art can become conservators, sculptors, painters, teachers, illustrators, curators, printmakers, and the list continues. It might depends in the master degree.
If I scored myself out of ten, with ten being the highest, how well do I think I know my own subject area?
Taking into account that fine art is a very extensive and complex subejct, I would score myself with 3, considering that I am don't know even half of what Fine Art includes. I might know a part of Art History, I might know how to draw and I might also know a part of Geometry but Fine Art is a lot more than knowing the basics. There is still a lot of space for improvement.
