Francisco de Goya: Thoughts
Last week we had a lecture about Francisco Goya. I had already heard about Francisco Goya in the past, but I never researched about him. For this reason, I was quite happy to have a lecture about him. Goya was a Spanish artists who developed not only paintings during his career but also engravings and drawings. I found his artworks really interesting and impressive for his techinque and use of light.
Some of the paintings that interested me the most are the ones about waht surrounded him and his time, which involved invasions, the horrors of war, supressions by the Inquisition and so on. The paintings "The Second of May, 1808" (1814) and "The Third of May, 1808" (1814) are a good example of these genre. In these paintings it is represented the moment Napoleon and his army invaded Spain (1808) which brought an end to the reign of Charles IV and marked the beginning of the Peninsular War.
Although I liked the artworks of Francisco Goya, I believe that, at least for my project, this lecture was not very helpful. Moreover this lecture was very extensive and with a lot of details which ended up being a little bit tiresome. Nevertheless, I liked to learn about Francisco Goya and I hope to be able to developed future projects around him and his artworks
