Icebraker: Self- Portrait
During the class we had to draw a self portrait in about 15 minutes but I spent more time drawing it after the class. We could use any media we wanted so I chose to do a clay bust. However, I did not think I would be able to make a realistic portrait using clay. Therefore I started by drawing a chibi version of myself. Chibi is a japanese term used to describe small, cute versions of manga/anime characters that normally are presented with oversized heads.
I was not able to take photos during the process because my hands were really dirty by the clay and I could not touch in my phone. However I took a photo of when I finished modeling the clay:
After letting it dry, I painted it with acrylics:
I thought about doing te rest of the body, but the neck in the chibi style is very thin and it would not be able to support the head even if it had a wire. Nevertheless, I am quite happy with the result and it was fun to make my own chibi characther.
This is an interesting approach to the exercise, Sara. Looking forward to seeing the end result.
